This year, we have purposed to seek God in order to have a closer and more intimate relationship with Jesus. Many of us have known Christ from Childhood in Sunday School; some of us say we are Christians because we were born in a Christian home. Years later, how much do we know Christ? Do we know Christ or do we just know about Him.

Last year, I was doing a training in Kenya and I asked participants to introduced themselves. Most of them introduced themselves as President Barak Obama's first cousin. I asked them whether they had ever met him....There was loud laughter in the room. I asked them whether he knew them. I probed further to know whether if they met in the street they would give each other a high five. Reality hit. Maybe they know his grandmother, his village, some of his family members...they know he lives in the White house in Washington, is married to Michelle and they have two beautiful daughters but they soon realized they they do not know President Obama at all nor does he know them.

The same can be said about some of us in terms of our relationship with Jesus. We know about Jesus but do we really know Him?. In Phil. 3:10, Paul writes 'That I may know Him...' Not just about Him. Paul is talking about spiritual intimacy. Having a relationship with Jesus. Becoming more like Him - 2 Corinthians 3:18 says 'but we all, with unveiled face....are becoming more and more like Christ; being transformed from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord;'

To know Christ our hearts and lives need to be changed through His Word - Jer. 15:16,James 1:21-25. We need to experience the power of the Word of God in our lives.

Hebrews 10:25 encourages us not to give up the habit of meeting together.

When seek Christ and find Him, we will make Him known in every situation of our lives. Read Daniel 3:17-28. 'Blessed be the God of ...'

My prayer is that like Job in Job 42:5 'I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear but now my eyes see You.'

As we seek God and find Him, may we experience a renewed level of intimacy with Him that we cannot keep to ourselves but pass on to a seeking and hungry world.

During this week of chain of chain prayer, the week of the 9th-13 January, as we seek God, it would be good to focus on the following  points among others as we seek God and strive for a closer walk with Jesus:

1. Strengthening our faith - Romans 10:17 states that 'faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.' We need to go deeper in God's Word and allow the Word to strengthen our faith.

2. Straightening our walk - It is by applying the Word of God to our lives that our spiritual walk would be straightened. Psalm 119:105 says 'Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Also read Hebrews 12:12 and Isaiah 40:3-5

3. Stimulating our mind - What stimulates our minds? 1 Corinthians 2:13-16 reminds us that the Word of God transforms our minds. The natural man does not understand spiritual things for they are foolishness to him. It is he who is spiritual that can understand the mind of Christ, the ways of Christ and practices them. The heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked - Jer. 17:9 but it is the mind circumcised by the Word of God - Jere 4:4 that can discern spiritual things. Phil.3:3 says 'we are the circumcision....'  Matthew 12:34 reminds us that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Phil. 2:5 says that we have the mind of Christ.

May God take us to a higher level in Him. Rom. 12:2 (Amp) says we should not allow the world around us to squeeze us into its own mould but that  we should be transformed by a renewing of our minds to that which is good and acceptable to Him.

This week the members of the Good News Prayer Group and other intercessors will embark on a week long chain prayer.

Sister Onike Gilpin explained that the chain prayer is a call for us to 'seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness....' In Psalm 27: verse 8, David writes, "when you said 'seek My face', my heart said unto Thee, Your face Lord will I seek.'

The Lord says that we have been focusing more on 'all other things' and not as much on Him. Unfortunately, there are times we have focussed more on our needsand what we want and when, not patiently waiting on Him to do His best for us. Psalm 84:11 says '...no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.'

Some scriptures to meditate on:

Deut. 4:29

Jeremiah 29:13

Isaiah 55:6

Amos 5:4

Matthew 7:7

Col.1:3

Sister Gilpin concludes that her prayer for this three day chain prayer session is that we deepen our relationship with Jesus.

As we focus on Jesus, all other things shall be added unto us.
