My brothers and sisters, the Good News Prayer Group and other intercessors around the world are currently going through an exercise of 24hour global chain prayer. the theme for this prayer chain is 'A closer walk with Jesus.' I don't know about you but I am excited.....very excited because I have purposed, by His grace, not to be the same when we complete this exercise. I have been reflecting on the topic and thought I should share them with you. 2 Corinthians 3:18 states that we will go from glory to glory. My prayer is that every one of us is closer to Jesus than when we started. How can we get closer to Jesus? Think about the following: NOT JUST PRAYING BUT ACTING OR LIVING OUT WHAT WE PRAY My prayer for us is that we live out our prayers. Sometimes, we spend so much time praying but our actions don't speak Christ. Can people say of us that' who we are speaks so loudly of us that they cannot hear what we say?' Can people trust our prayers because our lives are a testimony of lives transformed by Christ? Is Jesus in the inside, working on the outside? Does our Character, our speech, our action make Christ proud? It is good to remember that prayer is not only about talking to God but listening to Him. Jesus says in John 10:11-16 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. ... 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd. May we also take time to know His voice, listen to His voice and obey His voice. This can only be done by spending time with Jesus .....abiding in Him and He in us...

NOT JUST READING THE WORD BUT LIVING THE WORD Getting closer to Jesus is not only about reading the word but living the Word. James 1:22-25 says, But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.' John 13:17 says 'if you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. We want Jesus to call us blessed because we walk our talk. It is not a matter of how much of the Word we know but how much we live the Word. As we read God's Word, may we pray Ephesians 1:17-18 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding[a] being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.' When God's Word ceases to be a story book but an agent of divine transformation in our lives then we can get closer to Him. NOT JUST SAYING WE LOVE JESUS BUT OBEYING HIS COMMANDS Jesus clearly says, 'If you love Me, keep My commandments. In John 15:10,' Jesus further says 'If you obey My commandments, you will remain in My love.' We can't continue in sin and say we love Jesus. When we love someone, we do our utmost to please them. May this be a time of shaking off stubborn sins, by His grace. Romans 6:1 asks ' shall we go on sinning so that grace my increase? By no means, no!

We need to deliberate in getting close to Jesus so that by the time we finish this three day exercise, there will be evidence or a closer walk with Jesus in our lives. That the fruit of the Spirit mentioned in Gal. 5:22... will be truly evidenced in our lives. James 4:8 calls us to draw near to God and He will draw near to us. Jesus has come to draw us unto Himself. He did not come to call the righteous but sinners unto repentance. David put it beautifully when he said 'a broken and a contrite heart, God will not despise.' May we embrace our brokenness, our sins and our shame and leave them at the foot of the cross. May this be a time when we can trade our sorrows, trade our shame and our pain, for the joy of the Lord. By the time we finish this exercise, by His grace may we have laid aside every sin and weight that so easily entangles and enjoy the freedom that only He can give. May we have a closer walk with Jesus! Also for ease of reference, please find Sister Gilpin's message on the subject in a closer walk with Jesus - 4 As you go through this time, please feel free to share testimonies, reflections or just anything so we can bless and enrich each other, for His glory.

Dear brothers and sisters , Again we are blessed with another opportunity to join the 24 hour global prayer chain with members of the Good News Prayer Group. This time the topic is 'prayers for a closer walk with Jesus'. Jesus is calling us to a closer with Him. Many of us have given our lives to Jesus but let me ask you, how close are you to Him? How well do we know Him, how much have we allowed Him to change our lives, do those around us know that we know Jesus, have we held on to certain things or encourage certain behaviors that keep us far from Him? Do people get closer to Jesus by associating with us? These three day we are going to pray and, by His grace, draw closer to Him. The Bible says in James 4:8 'Draw near to Me, and I will draw near to you'. May we spend time, eating His Word and drinking it. Jeremiah 15:16 says 'I found the Word and I ate it.' May we spend time praying and living out the word of God. James 1:22 reads, be not only hearers of the Word but doers also. John 13:17 says 'if you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.' Some of us have become stagnant in our relationship with Jesus. We have become very familiar ....too familiar with Jesus that we have lost our first love and taken Him for granted. May God stir a revival in us....may He give us a renewed love and a resolve fora closer walk with Him. We are all very familiar with the 'Footprints in the sands of time'. There we see Jesus walking along side us and even carrying us. During this prayer time, we are called to follow Him and no other. Are we committed to follow Jesus alone? Do we declare that everywhere He leads us we will follow him? How closely are we committed to following Him? Peter followed from afar off when Jesus was being taken to Calvary. Do we follow afar off or do we follow Him closely? As we pray, here are some verses we should meditate on: Mark 8:34 - If any man come after Me, let Him deny himself , take up his cross and follow me. John 10:4 - The sheep follow Him for they know His voice John 10:27 - My sheep listen to My voice; I know them and they follow Me. Mark 10:21-22 - the rich young ruler Mark 10:28 - Peter said, we have left all and followed His. John 12:26 - if anyone serve me let him follow ME. We should follow Jesus as He followed His Father. He was constantly in tune with His Father. He prayed or communicated with His Father. He listened to His Father. He declared that His meat was to do the will of His Father and to finish it - John 4:34. He knew when to work and when to rest - After creation, God rested. Jesus knew when to take time off and rest. Our bodies are His temples and we need to know when to rest and take care of God's Property. He took time to pray and fast. At the end of Jesus' life, in John 17:4'He said, 'I have glorified You on earth. I have finished the work which you have given Me to do.' Paul followed Jesus closely. In Phil. 1:21, he declared, 'For me to live is Christ to die is gain and at the end of his life he said in 2 Timothy 4:7 'I have fought the goods fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith . Daniel followed God so closely that when the governors and satraps wanted to find fault against him they said in Daniel 6:5 'we shall not find any fault against this Daniel unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God'. Shadrach, Mesach and Abednego chose to follow God and not bow (Daniel 3:17-18) and as a result in Daniel 3:28, Nebuchadnezzar declared 'blessed be the God of......' Do we follow Jesus so closely that we can resist the temptation to bow.....to choose to forgive, to love our neighbor, not to harbour malice and bitterness.......NOT to bow. Because of our walk and closeness to Jesus, can even the unbeliever say, blessed be the God of ....and want to experience the transforming and sustaining power of this Man, Jesus in their lives? As we go through this chain prayers, may we examine ourselves and identify areas where we have lagged behind and put these before the throne of grace and ask God to enable us to leave these behind and follow Him. We can't drag on sin, and weights as we follow Him. Hebrews 12:2 states that we have to lay aside every sin and weight that so easily besets us. God can set us free to follow Him, if only we allow Him to. We cannot do it on our own strength but by His power at work in our lives. My prayer is that by the end of the chain prayers, we will have testimonies of deliverance from sin and character flaws so our King of kings would be glorified. This exercise is not a ritual but one for us to experience the power of God Christ in our lives. May we learn to: To love Him more dearly To serve Him more faithfully To know Him more clearly To follow Him more nearly/closely. Our prayer should be ' Just a closer walk with Thee Grant it Jesus is my plea. Daily walking close to Thee Let it be dear Lord, let it be. I am weak but Thou art strong Jesus, keep me from all wrong I'll be satisfied as long As I walk let me walk lose to Thee. In this world of toils and snares If I falter, Lord who cares? Who with Thee my burden shares? None but Thee, oh Lord, none but Thee. May God bless, enrich and strengthen us during this time of hungering and thirsting for a closer walk. Following in His foot- steps, for His glory, Sister Onike Gilpin

Dear brothers and sisters, As I meditated on the topic, the Lord is saying He wants us to go from compliance to impact. We have all signed up for chain prayers and are faithfully praying. This exercise is not just about compliance....it is not a ritual....the Lord would like to see a change in us even as we strive for a closer walker with Him. May our closeness with Jesus see us further from sin...may our vices be changed to virtues. May we examine Gal 5:19 ... and put on Gal 5:22...Ephesians 4:31 and Colossians 3:8...11 encourages us to get rid off...to take off and put on. My prayer is that we would individually examine our lives and 'not by might, not by power, but by His Spirit' be taken to a higher level in our relationship with Jesus. Please feel free to share your testimonies with others, for His glory!
